Installing Laminate

Before starting your laminate floor installation there are some things that you need to do ahead of time. Before beginning to install your laminate flooring you have to make sure that the under surface is ready. You need to make sure that the floor underneath where you are installing your wood laminate flooring is flat, dry, and smooth. You will need to get underlayment for your laminate flooring installation if it does not come already attached to the flooring itself. This will make up for any irregularities in the floor as well as act as a soundproofing and stability layer. Before installing laminate, it is best to let the material sit out at the site for a minimum of two to three days so that it can adjust to the temperature and humidity. To start installing floating laminate flooring, choose the wall that is more visible than your ending wall. Prep the area beneath where you plan to install the laminate floor. Measure the area, and allow 10% extra to cover wastage from errors and needing to trim for corners, etc. You will also need to consider the amount of space needing when you install laminate wood flooring to accommodate expansion. In large rooms, you will need half an inch, smaller rooms only ¼ inch.

When looking at how to install a laminate floor, you need to start with the underlayment. It usually comes in large rolls or as separate tiles. Remove the molding from the baseboard, and cut out the area needed around doorframes. Lay the underlayment down carefully without overlapping, taping pieces together to prevent overlapping.

To install glueless laminate flooring you will not have to attach the laminate to the subfloor. In most installations, the boards connect to each other using a tongue-and-groove design. Glueless laminate flooring does not require glue to hold the boards together, while some styles will need glue. Glueless planks install much quicker than those that use glue, and can be walked on immediately after installation.

When installing the flooring, have the planks be parallel to any sunlight that comes in, starting in the left corner or the room. Install each plank, inserting it at angle and pushing down until it snaps in place. Continue down the room, trimming the last planks as needed for them to fit.
