Pine Flooring

For a beautiful, ageless look in your home, you should consider pine flooring. With so many options in pine wood flooring, you are sure to come up with some thing that you will love for years to come.

Heart pine flooring comes from the center of the tree, or the dormant part. It often has a redder color than sapwood pine flooring. Some companies will sell heartwood pine flooring that has been reclaimed from the bottoms of rivers where it has been lost since the old logging days. This reclaimed heart pine flooring can be very expensive, since it is usually of very good quality and difficult to get to.

Antique pine flooring is another popular choice. Wood from older constructions can be salvaged and reused if it is still in good shape. This can become a very pricy venture, however, so many people will go with a pine laminate flooring that has been aged and designed to look like a piece of the antique pine wood floor.

Pine plank flooring is another way to recapture the look of old Victorian homes. Coming from renewable forests and offering planks sometimes as big as a foot wide, it is a great option for your home. You can get prefinished pine flooring in a variety of stains, or leave it in a natural state for a warm honey color.

The best pine floor finish will depend on the type of pine wood floor that you have. If it is an existing floor, it may depend on whether or not you want to restore the old look or start again fresh. For new installations, it is always best to go with the manufacturer’s recommendation when choosing a pine floor finish.

Many people will ask if Pine Sol is a good floor cleaner. While it may be good for vinyl floors, Pine Sol, despite the name, is not designed for wood flooring and should not be used on your pine flooring. To keep your pine floor looking its best, there are several things you can do. Wipe up wet spills immediately and sweep up dry dirt regularly. Use ¼ C. vinegar with 4 C. of water to clean, and then dry immediately with a separate cloth. Do not use waxes on surface sealers – if you need to restore shine, you will need to reseal the entire surface. Using rugs at entrances and in high traffic areas will also reduce the amount of wear and tear on your pine flooring.
